Obituary of Robert Dean Ostedgaard

Robert Dean Ostedgaard of Iowa City passed away April 28, 2023.  He was 85 years old.

A funeral service for Bob will be held Tuesday, May 2^nd, 10 am, at Gay and Ciha Funeral and Cremation (2720 Muscatine Ave., Iowa City).  A time of visitation will follow the service until 1 pm.

Bob was born April 26, 1938 in Estherville, Iowa, the son of Victor and Irene (Nelsen) Ostedgaard.  Bob was the owner of Ostedgaard Construction Company from 1968 until retiring in 2011 but continued to work with his son Al for another eight years. Bob was known for his precise craftsmanship in the homes that he built and his attention to detail was paramount… he demanded quality in his work. 

Bob was a member of the Home Builders Association (HBA) of Iowa City, Greater Iowa City Area Home Builders Association, Home Builders Association of Iowa, and the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB).  He served as President of the HBA of Iowa City in 1990; received the President’s Award from the HBA of Iowa in 1991; received the Life Spike from the NAHB; and received the Award of Excellence from the Greater Iowa City Area HBA in 2004 for a Parade Home he built in North Liberty.

Bob enjoyed dancing with Donna when he was younger.  He also loved watching Iowa football and basketball games, playing golf and watching PGA tournaments on TV, and a good game of cards, Euchre and Bridge being his favorites.  Most of all he loved his family… his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were everything to him.  Bob’s passing leaves an emptiness, but his lessons and legacy live on through all who love him.

Bob’s family include his beloved wife of 65 years, Donna; children, Kent (Candi) Ostedgaard, Al (Robin) Ostedgaard and Lynn (Randy) Reinhold; grandchildren, Carly (Joshua Lucy) Ostedgaard, Megan (Brendan Schultz) Ostedgaard, Garrett (Molly) Ostedgaard, Lainey (Ned Carter) Stahle, Hallie (Eric) Jetter, Matt (Kelly) Reinhold, Jillian (Evan) Anderson, Stephanie (Drew Pratt) Reinhold and Trisha (Richie Barone) Forbes; ten great-grandchildren; brother, Dave (Lynda) Ostedgaard; and sister-in-law, Irma Ostedgaard.  Sadly, Bob is preceded in death by his daughter, Jill Ostedgaard; siblings, Rita (Bill) Hamilton, Marilyn (Loren) Johnson, and Gene “Spike” Ostedgaard; and his parents, Victor and Irene.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Eastern Iowa and Western Illinois.
