Obituary of Larry Leroy Steffen
Larry Leroy Steffen of Pacific, Missouri, passed away April 30, 2023, in Iowa City, Iowa. He was 81 years old.
Larry was born January 27, 1942 in Britton, South Dakota, the son of Floyd and Irene (Kishner) Steffen. Larry proudly served in the U.S. Army and was stationed at Nike missile base, Pacific, MO. Larry later went on to own and operate Steffen Salvage Recovery and Towing for over 50 years. Throughout that time, he developed many lasting friendships with coworkers and strangers that he treasured throughout his life. Larry was very generous and was always ready to give what he could, even down to the shirt off his back. Larry enjoyed travelling and seeing the world. He also enjoyed going to casinos to try his luck. His outgoing nature and compassion will be missed, but his legacy will be carried by all who love him.
Larry’s close family includes sister, Audrey Steffen, sisters-in-law, Loretta Obenauer, Rita Delmain, Ella Traphagen, Sally Newman, Sandy Fliehs, Kim Obenauer, and Judy Steffen; as well as brothers-in-law, Steve Obenauer, Dennis Obenauer, Ray Obenauer, and Hubert Newman; numerous nieces and nephews; great nieces and nephews; and innumerable friends that Larry made throughout his life. Sadly, he is preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Delores (d. 2013); and siblings, Harold (Marilyn) Steffen, Maynard (Maxine) Steffen, Gloria (Donald) Schmit, Marilyn (George) Zimmerman, Stanley (Norene) Steffen and Alfred Steffen; sister-in-law, Rosie Severson and brother-in-law, Marvin Obenauer.
A simple cremation has been arranged for Larry in accordance with his wishes. A memorial, celebrating Larry’s life will be scheduled at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the American Cancer Society.
