Obituary of Tracy Lynn Voparil

Tracy L. Voparil, age 60 of Iowa City died Thursday, June 1, 2023, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.

Funeral services will be held at 6pm Friday, June 9, 2023, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service, where there will be a time of visitation from 4pm to service time.  In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made in her memory to Crosspoint Baptist Church for outreach projects. 

Tracy Lynn Voparil was born April 16, 1963, in Rapid City, SD, the daughter of Terry L. Voparil and Phyllis E. (Campbell) Voparil.  She graduated from high school in Aurora, Colorado with the Class of 1981.  She lived in Colorado for many years before moving to Iowa with her daughter, Brittany, the sunshine of her life. She worked various occupations over the years, but if motherhood was ever said to be a job, Tracy not only loved her job as a mother, she gave it all she had.  Tracy enjoyed her family, her flowers and gardens.  She loved to sing not only in church choirs, but for events like weddings and funerals.  Tracy loved cats, maybe because they reminded her of herself, fiercely independent and strong willed. Something Tracy felt such strong support for was the Al-Anon Family Group supporting families that has someone struggling with alcohol and drug issues.

Her family includes her mother, Phyllis Brindos; father and his wife, Terry and Julie Voparil; siblings and their spouses, Bruce and Sharon Voparil, Heather and Travis Messer, and Craig and Christine Voparil; nieces and nephews, Christopher, Cyle, Samuel, Isabelle, Anna, Vincent, Samantha, Tyler, Ally, Tyler, and Josh.

Tracy was preceded in death by her grandparents and daughter, Brittany.
