Obituary of Kevin Rogers
Kevin John Rogers of Iowa City passed away on Monday, August 28th, 2023 of natural causes. Kevin was born on August 28, 1957 to Robert and Marjory Rogers. A gathering of family and friends will be held on Thursday, August 31st from 4-7pm at Gay and Ciha Funeral Home.
He grew up on a farm outside of Iowa City, with his four brothers (Robert, Jerry, Lawrence, and Richard). Kevin graduated from Iowa City West in 1976. After graduation he worked construction for 40 years. He had a plethora of carpentry skills and was part of the construction of numerous buildings on the University of Iowa campus.
In 1985 he married the love of his life, Jayne Jack. They had three children (Brandon, Brittany and Colton). Kevin gave all his heart to loving his wife, his love never yielded through 15 years of Jayne battling Huntington’s Disease before passing in 2011. The greatest lesson Kevin passed down to his children was being caring and loyal through his actions of caring for their mother.
Kevin enjoyed the simple things in life like fishing out on the Iowa River to sitting around the wood burning stove in the garage with friends spinning yarns that grew with each time he told them. He was a real life MacGyver who would take others trash and create treasures. He enjoyed watching his two sons play sports. Late in life he found immense joy spending time with his three grandchildren (Augustus, Troy, and Tillman). He was an unrelenting spoiler of his grandchildren and he would have given life or limb for their health and happiness.
Kevin was a man of immense humor, even in his darkest moments he would always find a way to have a good laugh. He always would want people to say the word, “Hoof-Hearted” and would laugh until his sides hurt. Sharing laughs with his close friends meant a lot to him. His friends stuck with him through thick and thin, most notably, Randy Kramer and Tim Aubrecht. He had intense love and appreciation for his loyal friends, as they brought him great happiness through the numerous challenges life threw at him.
Kevin is preceded in death by his wife Jayne Rogers, daughter Brittany Rogers, his parents Robert and Marjory Rogers and his brother, Richard Rogers. He is survived by his sons Dr. Brandon Rogers (Katie Rogers) of Yuma where he works on Software and Colton Rogers (Aletheir “Ali” Hanson) of Apache Junction where he works as a part-time Santa clause, his grandsons Dr. Augustus, Troy, and Tillman and brothers Roberto, Geraldo, Lawrence and sister Valli.
