Obituary of Scott Thomas Sovereign

Scott Thomas Sovereign, age 60, died Saturday, September 16, 2023, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics after a long battle with cancer.

Scott was born August 2, 1963, in Boone Iowa, with his family moving to Iowa City where he attended school, graduating from City High School in 1981.  He then attended the University of Iowa, graduating in 1990 with a Major in Business and a Minor in Japanese.  For over 26 years he was an English Teacher to children and adults in Japan, where he developed many lifelong friends.  He returned to this area where he enjoyed cooking for family and friends and playing cards.

His family includes his step-mother, Wonda Sovereign; siblings, Roberta Kost, Laura Schultz, David Sovereign, and Camella Elsner; nieces and nephews, Jakoda Kost, Tessa Schultz, Sierra Watson, Brenna Homan, Noah Schultz, Sienna Sovereign, Erica Sovereign, Tyler Sovereign, Brayden Sovereign, Eddie Elsner, and Evan Elsner; great nephew and niece, Benji and Piper Watson.

Scott was preceded in death by his father, Larry Sovereign and his mother, Judy Eastberg.

A memorial service will be held at 2 pm, Sunday, February 25, 2024 at Faith Baptist Church in Iowa City, with a luncheon to follow.  Private family burial will be held at Memory Gardens.
