To the Spenler family, my deepest sympathy to all of you. She was a lovely lady and so friendly.

All of you were former neighbors. Anita was my Girl Scout leader. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you at this time.

To the Spenler family ~ I was so saddened to read of Anita’s passing. Thinking of Anita and Len brings me only joyous memories. The two of them along with 29 other folks, including my parents David and Pat Gause, were founding members of Faith United Church of Christ here in Iowa City. I loved to hear stories of how they canvassed the neighborhood in the early years and once the church was up and running more stories and memories were created, including worshiping and Sunday school classes in the house church on Lower Muscatine, purchasing land and building the current church and parsonage, rummage sales, box dinners, Christmas pageants, fundraising for youth trips to the Appalachian Mountains and Black River Falls, WI, potlucks, camping and outdoor services, and so many more. When Faith UCC celebrated its 50th anniversary in November 2008, your parents participated by sharing memories with us. Your folks and my folks spent many anniversaries together since both couples were married on August 19th. I’m sure our folks are in cahoots again as they watch over their families and friends.
