Obituary of Charlotte M. Krogh

Charlotte M. Krogh, age 83, formerly of rural West Branch, died Monday, November 28, 2005, at the Simpson Memorial Home in West Liberty, Iowa following a lengthy illness. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, December 1, 2005, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City with the Reverend Renee Luneman officiating. Burial with Military Honors will be at the Lone Tree Cemetery. A reception will follow the graveside services at the Lone Tree American Legion. Visitation will be from 4 to 7pm Wednesday at the funeral home. A memorial fund has been established in her memory. Colson Krogh was born October 10, 1922, in Needham, Massachusetts, the daughter of Mike and Jessie (Horsford) Colson. Following graduation from Needham High School in 1942, she attended business school. She worked for Bendix Aviation in Boston prior to enlisting in the United States Marines during WWII. She met her husband, Ernie who was also in the Marines while both were stationed in Washington D.C. She married Ernest E. “Ernie” Krogh March 23, 1945, in Washington D.C. Following the war the couple came back to Iowa where Ernie was from and their farmed for many years in t he Lone Tree and West Branch areas. During the 1960’s she was employed by Owens Brush in Iowa City. Later from 1969 until she retired in 1983 she worked at the Sky King Restaurant in West Branch, while assisting her husband in their farming operations. She was a member of the Lone Tree American Legion, former member of the Freemont Homemakers Club, former Sunday School Teacher at the Lone Tree United Church of Christ. Charlotte enjoyed many things in her life, reading, sewing, doing various crafts, her gardens of flowers and plants, cooking for family and friends, but most of all her family was the smile on her face each and every day. Her family includes two sons, Ed Krogh and his wife, Suzanne of Iowa City; and Dave Krogh of West Branch; daughter, Cindy MacGowan and Les MacGowan of West Liberty; five grandchildren, Jennifer Eldred and her husband, Mark, Michael Krogh, Kara Krogh, Jessica Karr, and Clayton “C.J.” Karr; and several cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, and husband, Ernie on June 15, 2004. Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service of Iowa City is caring for Charlotte’s family and her services.
