Obituary of Christine Mary Mayers

Christine “Chris” M. (Stroud) Mayers, age 63 formerly of Iowa City, resident of Davenport died Sunday, October 15, 2023.

Funeral services will be held at 4pm Sunday, October 22, 2023, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City, where there will be a time of visitation from 2 to 4pm that day at the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established to support her dear little grandchildren, who thought their Grandma Mayers was the best.

Christine Mary Stroud was born August 3, 1960, in Iowa City the daughter of Earl and Irene (Kelly) Stroud. Chris graduated from Solon High School with the Class of 1979.  On August 1, 1987, she married Robert “Rob” F. Mayers in Iowa City.  The couple made their home in Davenport where they began their family.  For most of her working career Chris has worked in health care. In recent years, Chris had lived in Columbus Junction with her fiancé, Larry Suiter.

Chris could be a bit vocal when she wanted to be, especially when cheering or screaming at her beloved St. Louis Cardinals.  She enjoyed baseball, most summer nights were spent at some baseball diamond in the area.  But nothing in this world compared to her love of her two grandchildren, She simply adored, spoiled and couldn’t love them enough, but would be the first to smile and say, I am the lucky one! She was always in the stands for Myles wrestling and baseball games and on the sidelines encouraging her little Emma in her dance classes.

Her family was her world, they include her two children, Emily McGinnis (Aaron-favorite son-in-law) and Ryan (Katherine Kanagy); grandchildren, Myles and Emma; and Chris’s sisters, Terry Abbott (Ralph), Diane Siems (Wayne), Barbara Brant, Betty Staley, Robin Cox (Don); brother-in-law, Dennis Rost; numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded death by the love of her life, Rob; her parents, Irene and Earl Stroud; sister, Ginger Rost; brothers, Ron, Frank,William, Edward and Richard and her fiancé, Larry Suiter.
