Obituary of Harry K. Barth

Harry K. Barth, 78, of Iowa City, passed away Monday, December 18, 2023, with his loving family at his side.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Friday, December 22, 2023, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City, with burial to follow at the Masonic Cemetery in Tipton, Iowa. Visitation will be from 9 am until time of services on Friday. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in Harry’s memory to Atrium Village or Care Initiatives Hospice. 

Harry Keith Barth was born July 27, 1945, in Greene, Iowa the son of Darrel and Roberta (Boyd) Barth. He attended schools in Greene, graduating from Greene High School.  Harry was a self-employed barber in Louden, Iowa for a number of years, before joining the Clarence – Lowden Community Schools where he was employed until his retirement in 2009.  He had served in the Iowa Army Reserves for six years, enjoyed watching the Iowa Hawkeyes no matter what sport it was, but most of all, Harry loved his family!  He and his wife, Jean were at all the children’s and grandchildren’s school and sporting events as proud as anyone could be.

His family includes his wife of 55 years, Jean; their three children, Mary Brase (Tom), Julie Thomas (Rick), and Daryl Barth (Sara); eight grandchildren, Joshua Brase (Randi), Caleb Brase (Sydney), Alyssa Brase, Abby Thomas, Ashley Thomas, Werner Thomas, Harrison Barth and Ava Barth; one great-grandson, Kade Brase; Harry’s siblings, Robert Barth (Rita), Kenneth Barth and Barb Killoran (Jim); and brother-in-law, Curt Chapman; several nieces and nephews.

Harry was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Jerry Barth; sister, Linda Anderson and Jean’s parents, Wayne and LaVerne Chapman.
