Pearlie Godette Carter age 98 went home to be with the Lord on Monday January 8, 2024.

She moved to Iowa City in 2012 to be near her son and was a resident of Melrose Meadows until her health started to fail her. She was briefly a resident at Crestview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in West Branch Iowa.

The oldest of 10 Pearlie was born August 30, 1925, in Havelock North Carolina to Aceline (Frazier) and Willie Godette. She attended and graduated from Hampton University in 1949 with a BS degree in Science. Pearlie was joined in marriage to James O. Carter in December 1949. Pearlie gave birth to a son, Keith. She and James lived in Indianapolis, Indiana and she began working as a financial analyst at the Army Finance Center at Fort Benjamin Harrison. In April 1964, James passed away at a young age. She raised Keith on her own, never remarried and in the summers sent Keith to North Carolina and Washington DC for companionship with relatives. Pearlie retired from the Finance Center in 1985.

She was member of Delta Sigma Theta sorority, was a member of Barnes United Methodist Church, Oasis-an organization for retired and senior adults and a charter member of the Culturette Club all in Indianapolis, Indiana.
