Obituary of Gwendolyn C. Davis

Gwendolyn “Gwen” Corine Davis, age 47 of 1100 Arthur Street, Iowa City died unexpectedly, this past week at her residence. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 30, 2005, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. Burial will be at the Oakland Cemetery in Iowa City. Visitation will be from 9am Saturday until services at the funeral home. A memorial fund has been established in Gwen’s memory. Gwendolyn Corine Davis was born December 11, 1957, in Suffolk, VA the daughter of educators, Bertie W.H. and Fannie Colden (Raney) Davis. Graduated from high school in Gary Indiana, and attended Bennett College in Greensboro, NC. In 1983 she moved to Iowa City, where she has been employed with Lear Corporation, formerly Sheller Globe for the past twenty-years. She was a member of the Teamster’s Union through work. Gwen had many interest and passions, her work was very important, and the second shift crew were like family to her. She enjoyed watching the Iowa Hawkeye’s, listenisng to music, but most of all in her life was her family, especially her nieces and nephews. Her family includes sisters,Willie D. Boah and her husband, John of Ghana, Africa, and Fannie E. Davis of Iowa City; brothers, Bertie W.H. Davis III of Gary, IN, and Bruce C. Davis of Iowa City; nieces and nephews, Kofi Boah, Ama Boah, Bertie W.H. Davis VI, Britney Davis, Bruce B. Davis, Calvin C. Davis, Alonzo Cunningham, Jeffrey Davis and Shanice Burks; great-nephews, Brenden Davis and Markell Davis; sister-in-law, Eula Davis of Iowa City; aunts & uncle, Ione and Everett Raney of Silver Springs, MA and Corine Jones of Norfolk, VA; her favorite cousin, Jimmy Raney of Bethesda, MA; and a host of any other family and friends who loved Gwen. She was preceded in death by her parents. Gay & Ciha Fuenral and Cremation Service of Iowa City is caring for Gwen’s family and her services.
