Not sure how to write this. I was a very young burn patient of Dr. Lewellyn. I have very few memories of my childhood, but family and friends have told me about the extra efforts that Dr Lewellyn made for me.(extra toys in the office). 20+ years later we met again and he remembered me and asked how I was doing. I could see the kindness in his eyes and knew it was still a hard question for him to ask. All I can say now is thank you.
Bless you Dr Lewellyn!
Uncle Neal was my father’s closest friend and colleague. They became friends during college at Drake, went through medical school, and into practice together until retirement. Uncle Neal was always there in the life of our family through the best of times and the most trying times. I have enough memories that I could fill volumes. I was a very chubby baby and he nicknamed me “Moose” and was still using that nickname along with his own “Ned” in our correspondence which still made me smile every time after all the years that have passed (I am 61 now). Uncle Neal was a wonderful, kind, generous, witty, and talented man. To Uncle Neal’s family, my deepest sympathy's to all of you. I met many of you in my youth and remember Neal’s parents as well.
Rest in Peace Dear Uncle Neal.

On behalf of the entire Hebl family, I wanted to express our sincere sympathy to "Uncle Neal's" family on his passing. My Mom, Betty Hebl, worked with Dr. Llewellyn for many years at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City as an ER nurse. Dr. Llewellyn was most definitely one of her favorites. They had a special bond as he often referred to her as "Ma Hebl" and had great respect for her nursing abilities and likewise she had great respect for him not only as a surgeon but as a person. So many fond memories. Hugs to his family and cherish the memories.

I always had a lot of respect for "Uncle Neal", as we called him. He was one of the few doc's who would come back and help clean up in the ER when we had a really messy patient that he ended up taking to the OR. Was a great guy. Sorry to read about his passing. Sue McConnell
My mom worked for many years as Dr. Llewellyn's office nurse. They shared a special relationship and our entire family have some wonderful memories of him. Surgical Services was a wonderful clinic and severed the the Iowa City area well. I'm so sorry to hear of his passing a true treasure to the local medical community. Gracious and caring in his own way! Memories continue to fill my head as I reflect on all those years!!
Neal was our very good neighbor for 22 years. He proudly flew the American flag year-round, and his lawn was a site to appreciate. He often sat outside in front of his house seemingly watching out for the neighborhood. His kindness and generosity of spirit reached into our family, and we all loved him. On many winter holidays he would give us a cleverly hand-painted box or candied pecans he had made. Neal was one of a kind, and we're grateful for the warm memories he has left us.

We had the privilege of living next door to Neal for many years. He was the very best neighbor and friend you could ever ask for. We worked side by side to rake leaves and "tidy" up our hill....a glorious sanctuary above the Iowa River. Neal made our little neighborhood very special. Neal was a hard worker, an excellent conversationalist, an advocate for others and a man for all ages. We send our sincere sympathy to his family. We smile as we fondly remember Neal. Rest in peace, dear friend...rest in peace. John and Sherri Lennarson
So very sorry for this great loss to the family of Neal. There is a quote that always reminded me of him…He always expressed heartfelt interest in the welfare of others by word and deed! Such a kind and generous person. The world has lost a precious soul. Rest in eternal peace.

My beloved late mother Jane Knopick who was a nurse on 3West at Mercy Hospital had the privilege of getting to work with Dr. Llewellyn and always spoke highly of him & his wonderful bedside manner & care for his patients. Peace & prayers of comfort to his family.
He was one of a kind! When I think of Neal three things come to mind - his pipe, his cars, and his passion for his work - not necessarily in that order. I enjoyed working with him so much - even with his smelly pipe. After his retirement when he’d be out walking in City Park and our paths would cross we enjoyed lively conversations despite not having seen each other for years. I am truly sad to hear of his passing but happy to know he is resting in peace.
Neal was a wonderful Dr and friend. He definitely married his job .Ive known him for over 40 years . He was also a very good customer for my business as well .
Rest in peace my friend. You are no longer in pain and rest .
