Obituary of Curtis Dean Sheets
Curtis D. Sheets, age 90 longtime resident of Iowa City died Saturday, June 15, 2024, under the compassionate care of Iowa City Hospice and the Staff at the Bird House.
A public visitation will be held on Thursday from 4 to 6 pm at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. Graveside services with Military Honors will be held at 1pm Friday at the Evergreen Cemetery in Britt, Iowa; with a time of visitation after 12:30 at the grave. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in his memory to the Camp Eastman Development Association, Iowa City Hospice or the Bird House, Hospice Home of Johnson County.
Curtis Dean Sheets was born July 2, 1933, in Britt, Iowa the son of Everett and Mary (Kloster) Sheets. He graduated from high school in Britt, and attended various colleges in the next four years receiving his degree following his service in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. Curtis was united in marriage to Shirley J. Bublitz on September 4, 1959, in St. Ansgar, Iowa. The couple after a few years ended up in Iowa City where they have resided since.
He worked in sheet metal construction for a number of companies in eastern Iowa, Universal Climate Control, Johnson Sheet Metal, and retired from Schebler Heating & Air Conditioning in the Quad Cities. Curtis loved the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. He was a member of the NRA and the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation.
His family includes his wife, Shirley; their son, Gary Sheets; three granddaughters, Rosanna Sheets, Kelsey Sheets (Al Altmeier) and Shelby Sheets (Jaciob Simmons); four great-grandchildren, Rylee, Eliza, Daxton and Anthony; brother, Elton Sheets ( Jean); and sisters, Nancy Marrow and Marilynn Knappen (Richard.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers, Charles, Ronald and James in infancy.
