Obituary of Cynthia M. Myers

Cynthia Mary Myers, age 60, of North Liberty, passed away after a short, unexpected illness on Tuesday, July 2, 2024, surrounded by her loving husband and family. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, July 13, 2024, at LIFEchurch Coralville. Memorial contributions can be directed to the Iowa Donor Network. Floral arrangements can be sent to Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City.

Cynthia “Scubba” was born December 1, 1963, at St. Anthony’s Hospital in Carroll, IA, to proud parents Alvin Sr. and Mary (Bird) Irlbeck. The fifth of eight children, Cynthia earned the nickname Scubba at an early age. She was a student of the Kuemper Catholic Schools in Carroll. She was active in many sports, including track and softball. Cynthia excelled on the volleyball court where her love of the sport has been passed down to many family members. She graduated from Iowa State University in 1989 with a Bachelors of Arts Degree, majoring in Art & Design and Business.

Cynthia married Brian Myers on November 5, 2005, at Living Word Church in Iowa City. She was a devoted Christian. Cynthia became an active member of LIFEchurch Coralville where she joyfully served on the prayer team and participated in various bible study groups. She also served as president of their homeowners’ association for four years.

She was a recipient of 2 liver transplants and was always humbled and thankful to the donors that saved her life twice. Cynthia battled many health challenges throughout her life yet “quitting” was never in her vocabulary.

She was a kind and loving person who could talk to a stranger like they were an old friend. Cynthia enjoyed drawing, painting, and other various arts and crafts. She was very artistic.  Cynthia also enjoyed gardening and flowers and in her free time would watch nature shows. She could be described as a bit of a crossword puzzle enthusiast. She was an animal lover, especially of her cats and dogs.

Cynthia was a devoted aunt to her numerous nieces and nephews. She played a large role in their lives, attending as many of their plays, concerts, and sporting events as she could.

Cynthia is survived by her husband, Brian; siblings, Alvie (Shari) Irlbeck, Jr., Tom (Jan) Irlbeck, Wanita (Duane) Dentlinger, DeAnn (Doug) Pudenz, James Irlbeck, Amy (Steve) Sherman, and Dan (Nicole) Irlbeck; 21 nieces and nephews, and 18 great-nieces and great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Alvin Sr. and Mary Irlbeck.
