Obituary of Ruth Elisabeth Larson

Ruth E. Larson age 91 of Williamsburg, Iowa died Saturday, August 3, 2024 at the University Hospitals & Clinics Downtown in Iowa City.

Funeral services will be held at 1pm Saturday, August 17, 2024, at Hayward Lutheran Church in Hayward, Minnesota with internment to follow at the Hayward Cemetery.

Ruth Elisabeth Sorlien was born April 24, 1933, in Minot, ND, the daughter of S Olvin and Selma (Burreson) Sorlien.  Her family moved back to Iowa where her school years included marching band, working as a soda jerk and graduated in 1951.  She then attended Luther College.

Ruth married EJ (Red) Larson on February 28, 1953, at the Lutheran Church in Oakland, MN.  They farmed in Minnesota and had 2 daughters before moving to Portland, OR.  In 1957 they moved back to the family farm in MN and enlarged the family to include another daughter and a son.

She graduated from Mankato State University with her degree in education and spent her teaching career in Austin, MN teaching 4th, 5th and 6th grade students.

Her surviving family includes their four children, Jodie Allain (Rick), Maren Jones (Raymond), Teresa Larson and Jeffrey Larson (Arlene); 8 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild; Ruth’s sister Lois Fossen; sister-in-law Sandra Sorlien and brother-in-law Thomas Chomicz.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and 5 siblings.
