Obituary of Mary Louise Kennedy

Mary Louise Kennedy, 86, long time resident of Iowa City, died Tuesday September 27, 2005 at her apartment in Melrose Meadows due to complications from a broken hip. She passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family and devoted cat. Services for Mary Louise Kennedy will begin at 11:00am Friday at Trinity Episcopal Church and the burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery, Davenport. Her body will be cremated. Long time family friend and minister the Reverend Canon Robert Holzhammer will officiate. Online condolences may be sent for Mary Louise’s family through our website @www.gayandciha.com. She was born Mary Louise Sheets on October 16, 1918 in Davenport, the daughter of George M. and Louise Baird Sheets. She married Robert R. Kennedy on June 21, 1942 at Trinity Episcopal Church. She was a graduate of Iowa City High School and the University of Iowa with a degree in music and was affiliated with Alpha Xi Delta social sorority. Mary Louise was a devoted wife and mother, a true homemaker who also taught piano lessons for many years. In her retirement, she worked part-time for the University of Iowa in the Registrars office. Survivors include five children; her sons James and wife Margaret of Sumner; Richard and wife Cindy of Buford, GA; and David and wife Cristina of Chicago, Il; her daughters Patricia McBride of Pleasanton, CA; Carol Keenan and husband Patrick of Liberty, Mo; One sister, Jeanne McDonough of Bloomington, MN; 10 Grand-children, Michael, Matthew, Mary Margaret, William, Elizabeth, Susan, Katie, Graham, Sean and Ryan,; 4 Great-Grand-children, Madelynn, Joshua James, Cynthia Kay and Rebecca; and three Nephews, Steve, Ken, and Larry.
