Obituary of Dorothy Ann Dayton

Dorothy Ann Dayton, 96, passed away November 5, 2024 at Oaknoll Retirement Residence in Iowa City, Iowa.

Dorothy was born on January 24, 1928 in Ottumwa, Iowa. Her parents were Urban and Mary Merle (Jones) Dayton. Dorothy graduated with the Class of 1945 from Ottumwa High School. She later attended the University of Iowa, where she earned multiple degrees.

Dorothy lived her adult life in Iowa City. She was employed by Northwestern Bell Telephone Company for many years. Her many interests included traveling extensively around the world. She especially loved visiting London.

She is survived by a dear friend, Virginia Hirst, and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents, her brother Donald Dayton, and her sister, Mary Alice Yoakam.

A celebration of Dorothy’s life will be held in The Studio room at Oaknoll Retirement Residence, located at 1 Oaknoll Court in Iowa City, on Sunday, November 17. Meet and greet with the family will be from 2-4 pm, with remarks at 2:30 pm. Guests should enter through the main lobby, and the receptionist will direct them. Additional parking is available on George Street.
