Obituary of Kay Lucille Burke
Kay Burke
April 26th, 1940 – November 10th, 2024
(The majority of this obituary was written by Kay in 2021 when she first started seeing the signs of dementia enter her life.)
Our lives are a journey, and it has been a good trip for me. I am grateful for all the goodness, beauty, kindness and joy that I experienced throughout my life. I grew up with wonderful brothers (Dick and Larry) and sisters (Jeanne, Thelma, Colleen and Peg) in the small town of Walker, Iowa.
Preceding me in death was my life and travel partner, EJ Thomas. Kay is survived by two sisters, Colleen Zangerle and Peg Nims and several nieces and nephews.
If you choose to do so, I am certain that either of the following organizations would be grateful for your contribution. Friends of the Animal Center (PO Box 1345, Iowa City, IA 52244) or the Community Food Bank (1121 South Gilbert Street, Iowa City, IA, 52240)
A deep thank you and a peaceful good-bye to family and friends who were with me on my journey. I request no services.
“We are all just walking each other home.” Ram Dass.
The family wishes to thank Iowa City Hospice and the Oaknoll Community for their support and care for Kay. To the amazing staff in the Loft: your love and devotion to Kay cannot be overstated and will be not be forgotten.
