Obituary of Joshua Philip Wisely

Joshua Philip Wisely, age 35, of Iowa City, passed away on December 15, 2024 at the VA Medical Center in Iowa City.

Josh was born on July 1, 1989 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.  He was the son of Philip and Maria (Carrillo) Wisely.  Josh graduated from City High School 2006.  He enlisted in the United States Air Force when he was 17.  Josh served in many places while in the Air Force, including South Korea, England, Dubai and Alaska.  Following six years of service in the military, he settled in Wichita, Kansas where he continued to work as an aircraft mechanic.

Josh was his mom’s handyman, helping with projects around the house, fixing anything that was broke or mowing the lawn.  He enjoyed gaming, being outdoors and hiking.

His family includes his parents; siblings: Aron Carrillo of Iowa City, Rebecca (David) Britt of Austin, Texas, and Anthony Wisely of Iowa City; aunts and uncles: Gloria Arellano, Jose (Linda) Carrillo, Rosalio (Gloria) Carrillo, Clement (Stacey) Wisely, Andrew (Lynn) Wisely, and Rachel (Roy) DeWitt; as well as many cousins.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Isidoro and Aleja Carrillo; paternal grandparents, Gale and Constance Wisely; and an uncle, Mario Carrillo.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. on Thursday, January 2, 2025 at the Gay and Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service.  Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Friday, January 3, 2025 at St. Patrick Catholic Church.  Burial with military honors will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Friday in the Rock Island National Cemetery.
