Susan and Mark and families - we were so sorry to hear about Guerin. We were blessed to have them as neighbors for so many years and treasure many memories. Sitting on their back porch with a glass of wine watching the birds and squirrels. Dinner at Flanagan's for their steak special. Sometimes heated conversations about politics, education, sports or anything that might have been in the news that day. Guerin was such a gentleman. They were special people and will be greatly missed.
Mark and family, just read that your dad recently passed away. Know that you are all in my thoughts and prayers… he was a great guy, fond memories dating back to the McKinley and Washington days…
I came to Cedar Rapids in 1971. Dr. Thompson was the first principal that I worked with when I started the library at Pierce Elementary School. Shortly after I began work, he asked me if I knew what I was doing. I told him I had worked in libraries since I was 14 years old. He never questioned me again. I have many fond memories of my years at Pierce. I would often run into Guerin at tennis tournaments, and we would share some the memories of our years at Pierce. My condolences to his family.
I met Guerin years ago at NDAC and we developed quite a friendship! He was one of the nicest man I've ever met and we had great conversations, trying to solve the World's problems ! The one piece of advice he gave me I'll remember forever is " Ever day is a new normal so enjoy! Guerin will be missed!!
Rest in Peace, Guerin. You were always an inspiration at NDAC here in Iowa City. I hope to age gracefully by keeping active just like you! My sympathy to your family.
Guerin was a wonderful person. He was the leader of our tennis group and would do all of the scheduling, which is a pain. He played a great game and was a joy to have as a partner on the tennis court.
Sue Belger and family, sorry for your lost it is hard to lose someone near and dear to your heart!!!!! What I learned when my husband died 7 years ago is you take 1 day at a time, you live for the memories, and it shows your support system!!!!!
