Wayne was a member of the National Rifle Association and Iowa Fire Fighters Association. He and his wife, Gloria have been members of Zion Lutheran Church in Iowa City for many years. His family includes Gloria; their children, Jackie Heinle of North Liberty, Dawn Kasper (Don) of Nichols, Koreen Langley (Larry) of Iowa City, and Byron Fjelstad (Mary) of Iowa City; 4 grandchildren, Angela, Rochelle, Shane, and Bryson; 5 great-grandchildren, Collyn, Cade, Sloane, Sterling, and Easton; and Wayne's brother, Vernon Fjelstad (Loraine).
