Obituary of Dale Flansburg
His family includes his wife, Laverne, daughters, Sherry Flansburg of Sioux City, and Janet Jamie and her husband, Randy Cermak of Mt. Pleasant; son and his wife, Rex and Carol Flansburg of Tiffin; eight grandchildren, Dan Flansburg, Erin Flansburg, Luke Flansburg, Becky Cermak, Kim Cermak, Tami Loan, Tara Loan and Christy Laon; and a host of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Floy and Vivian, and a brother, Claire.
Dale was born July 3, 1916, in Stanwood, Iowa the son of Wilbur and Helena (Maley) Flansburg. He graduated from Stanwood High School in 1934 and had attended Cornell College. During World War II he served in United States Army with the 81st. Engineers in the South Pacific, their unit were the first of the occupation forces into Japan. On September 1, 1949, he married Laverne Wenman in Stanwood. The couple built a new home in Tiffin in 1949, and this is where he died on Friday, his home. Dale has been associated with Flansburg Hardware in Tiffin for nearly sixty-two years, retiring in 1998.
He was an active member of the Grace United Methodist Church in Tiffin; former member of the Tiffin City Council, having served as Mayor; former member of the Tiffin School Board, a member of the Walter Johnson Post 721 of the Coralville American Legion; and an avid Iowa Hawkeye Fan.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Dales memory.
