Obituary of Samuel F. Fahr
Samuel M. Fahr, age 85, 701 Oaknoll Drive, Iowa City, died on Saturday, August 28, 2004 at the Oaknoll Health Center in Iowa City. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, September 1, 2004 at Trinity Episcopal Church in Iowa City. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be given to the Oaknoll Foundation or to the University of Iowa, College of Liberal Arts. Samuel Mehard Fahr was born on September 17, 1918 in San Antonio, Texas, the son of George E. and Alice Pearson Fahr. He graduated from The Blake School in Minneapolis, Harvard College and the Harvard School of Law. During World War II he served in the United States Navy. In October of 1941 he married Elizabeth Betsy Sheldon in Boston, Massachusetts. They moved to Iowa City and the University of Iowa in 1948. He was Professor of Law at the University of Iowa until his retirement in 1988. He also taught at the University of Pennsylvania, the University of Minnesota, along with teaching in Peru, France and England. Sam was a member of numerous professional originations and Trinity Episcopal Church in Iowa City. He loved hunting, fishing, music, reading, playing tennis, and spending summers at Ten Mile Lake with his family. His family includes Betsy, his beloved wife of sixty three years, children, Samuel, Nancy, Bebe and Polly, 13 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
