Obituary of Mary Frances Tandy

Mary F. Tandy, age 87 of rural Oxford died at home, Monday, June 20, 2005, surrounded by her family following a short illness. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, June 22, 2005, at the Oxford United Methodist Church with the Reverend Diane Townsley officiating. Burial will be at the Oxford Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8pm Tuesday at the church. Memorial donations can be made in Mary’s memory to Iowa City Hospice of the Oxford United Methodist Church. Online condolences may be sent for her family through our website @www.gayandciha.com. Mary Francis Ward was born December 19, 1917, near Oxford Iowa, an only child of Francis & Carrie Doyle Ward. She graduated from Oxford High School. She then attended and graduated from Iowa State Teacher’s College in Cedar Falls. Prior to marriage, she taught at several Rural Country Schools in the Oxford area. On July 15, 1944, she married Ray Elbert Tandy in Oxford, and the couple farmed in the Oxford area. She was a member of the Oxford Order of Eastern Star and United Methodist Church. Mary loved cooking and baking for her family and friends, traveling to Texas for the winters, playing cards with her dear friends, working the daily crosswords, crocheting and Hardanger needle work. Her family includes her sons, Francis “Gomer” Tandy & Wife Kathy; James Tandy & Wife Barbara, Charles “Tiger” Tandy and Wife Cindy all of Oxford; one granddaughter, Julia Tandy; eight grandsons, Bob, Bill, Tom, Hunter, John, Josh, Carey and Jeremiah; five great-grandchildren, Drew, Matthew, Mary-Jane, Trevor and Hannah, one step-great-granddaughter, Tomi Jean Smith; and many very special friends. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Ray; and one great-granddaughter, Britton Elise. Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service of Oxford is caring for Mary’s family and her services.
