Obituary of Doris C. Stanfield

Doris C. Stanfield, age 75 formerly of 1704 Rochester Avenue, Iowa City died Wednesday, May 18, 2005, at Lantern Park Nursing and Rehab Center in Coralville following a lengthy illness. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, May 21, 2005, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City with the Reverend Judy Gingerich officiating. Burial will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Iowa City. Visitation will be from 4 to 7pm today at the funeral home. A memorial fund has been established in Doris’s memory. Online condolences may be sent for her fmaily through our website @www.gayandciha.com. Doris C. Maxey was born February 28, 1930, in Iowa City the daughter of Arthur and Grace (Huffman) Maxey. She attended schools in Iowa City. She married Ronald O. Stanfield September 27, 1947, in Iowa City. For over twenty-five years, she was employed as a dietitian at the Veterans Administration Hospital. Doris was a member of the Moose and Eagles Lodges. She enjoyed playing bingo, doing crossword puzzles, and watching her soap operas in the afternoons. Her family includes two sons; Keith Stanfield of North Liberty, and Tom Stanfield of Iowa City; six grandchildren, Keith Allen Stanfield, Lisa Stanfield, Melanie Stanfield, Charissa Stanfield, Tristan Stanfield, and Stephen Stanfield; thirteen great-grandchildren, Heather, Sarah, Maxwell, Austin, Sierra, Wesley, Dalton, Madison, Elizabeth, Marissa, Cerina, Brock, and Landon; two step-grandchildren, David and John Hicks; sister, Betty Brogan and her husband, Maynard of North Liberty; brother, Steve Maxey and his wife, Esther of Iowa City; daughters-in-law, Jeanne Hayslett of Iowa City, and Marcia Lewis of North Liberty. Doris was preceded in death by her parents, husband Ronald; grandson, Anthony “Tony” Stanfield; brothers, James, Arthur, and Valentine Maxey; and sisters, Hazel Vrchoticky, Irene Funk, Anita Funk, and Nina Matthes. Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service is caring for Doris’s family and her services.
