Obituary of Rosamond J. Ross

Rosamond J. “Rose” Ross, age 73 of 1488 Cromwell Place, Iowa City, died Saturday, October 30, 2004, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 2, 2004, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. Burial will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Iowa City. Visitation will be from 4 to 7pm today at the funeral home. Memorial donations can be made in her memory to the North Liberty Library. Rosamond Joy Mills was born November 9, 1930, in Marshalltown, Iowa the daughter of Ralph and Ruth (Northrop) Mills. Their family moved to Des Moines when she was 2 and later to Adel when she was 4years old. Here she attended schools graduating salutatorian of her senior class in 1948. She then went on to receive her teachering certificate from Iowa State Teacher’s College in Cedar Falls in 1950. For three years, she taught school in the second grade in Emmetsburg, Iowa. In 1953, she went back to college, enrolling at the University of Iowa. Here she met her future husband, Byron R. Ross. They were married on June 20, 1954 at the Christian Church in Marion, Iowa. Rose for a number of years volunteered at the North Liberty Library. She enjoyed doing genealogy work, bowling, needlework, reading, tending to her flower garden, traveling, and music. Her family includes her father, Ralph R. Mills of Cedar Rapids; her husband, Byron; three sons and their wives, Dr. Kelly D. Ross and Glenda Klimesh Ross of Osage, IA, Scott A. Ross and Roberta Swanson Ross of Monument, CO, and Mitchell W. Ross and Gina Delfin Ross of Pasadena, MD; eight grandchildren,, Benjamin, Elisabeth, Rebecca, Kaleb, Jacqueline, Adam, Marcus, and Michael. She was preceded in death by her mother, Ruth.
