Obituary of Violette I. Greslik

Violette I. Greslik, age 88 of rural North Liberty, died Saturday, December 13, 2003 at the Hiawatha Care Center in Hiawatha, Iowa from complications of Alzheimer’s disease. There will be a gathering of family and friends from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, December 16, 2003 at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. Graveside services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery in Cedar Rapids. Following the services at the grave there will be a time of fellowship and refreshment in the family center located at cemetery. Memorial donations can be made in Violette’s memory for Alzheimer’s disease Research. Online condolences may be sent for Violette’s family through our website @www.gayandciha.com. Violette was born September 15, 1915 in Andrew, Iowa the daughter of William and Ida L. (Hesse) Cheney. She attended and graduated from school in Andrew, and later took business courses from Hamilton business College. She married Elmer Kudrle January 1, 1940 in Missouri. The couple made their home in Cedar Rapids where she was employed by a number of companies including Quaker Oats, a dry cleaning business, Times Photo and Supply, and J.P. Gasway Paper Distributing for many years. Elmer died in 1965. She later married Joseph J. Greslik April 5, 1974 in Cedar Rapids. They made their home near North Liberty. Joseph died in 1996. Violette enjoyed sewing, belonging to a number of sewing circles, and the Eagles Lodge. Her family includes her son, Carter Kudrle of Marion; step-sister-in-law, Violet A. Nielsen of Clinton Township, Michigan; sister, Helen Nichols of Cedar Falls; grandchildren, Dr. Cynthia Kudrle and Frederick Kudrle both of Buenos Aires, Argentina; three step-grandchildren, Sandi Greslik of Ashton, Idaho, Theda Wolberton of Chesterfield, Michigan, and Linda Johnson of Luzerne, Michigan; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, three brothers, two sisters, and stepson, Richard Nielsen. Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service is caring for Violette’s family and her services.
