Obituary of Cynthia Shields
Cynthia Shields, 39, of North Liberty, died Thursday, May 15, 2014, at her home, while sleeping. She has rested from her labor and her works do follow her.
Funeral services will be held at 12 noon, Saturday, May 24th at the Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m., Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Ridgewood Cemetery in North Liberty. A fund has been established for her children at Great Western Bank in North Liberty.
Cynthia was born May 17, 1974; daughter of Lewis and Annie Young, in Chicago, Illinois. She was their fourth child. Cynthia grew up in Chicago and completed grammar school at Ralph Bunch and high school at St. Martin de Porres. She confessed her salvation and baptism to the Lord at the age of ten under the leadership of Reverend Larry Trask.
In 2002, Cynthia relocated to Iowa City and in 2003, was joined in marriage to Andrew Shields; to this union two children were born. In death, she leaves behind her children, Te'ah Brianna Jackson, Hakeem Isiah Odunsi, Brooklynn Lajoya Shields and Cynthia Andrea Shields. While in Iowa City, Cynthia furthered her education at Kirkwood Community College. She also owned her business, Cynthia's Beauty & Supply Shop.
Cynthia will truly be missed. She was a woman of determination who provided for her children, worked to maintain her household and was full of life. She leaves behind many memories of her life to her family. Brothers, Morris Outlaw and Michael Young; sisters, Albertine Kimbrough and Latice Woodard; as well as a host of other siblings, nieces, nephews and relatives and special family friends, Antionette Tayborne and Gina Mergy.
