Obituary of Alfred H. Johnson
His family includes his wife, Clara; daughters, Pauline Dicks of Bloomfield, Iowa, and Virginia Eden of Lone Tree; son, Lloyd Johnson of Iowa City, ten grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren; and a brother, Willis Johnson of Martinburg, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents, eight brothers and two sisters.
Al was born April 8, 1919 in Keokuk County, Iowa the son of William and Helen (Barkhouse) Johnson. He married Clara Finke, January 31, 1942 in Memphis, MO. He and his family have lived in Hedrick, Kinross, and Washington, Iowa prior to moving to the Solon address nearly thirty years ago. Alfred worked in the chemistry Building at the University of Iowa for many years, while doing this he and his family also owned and operated Zesto restaurant in Coralville, and Dairy Dinner in Washington for a number of years.
Alfred was known throughout the state for his showing and breeding dogs, winning many local, state and national titles. He was a member of Iowa City Obedience Club, Iowa City Sheltie Club, and Hawkeye Kennel Club.
A memorial fund has been established in Als memory.
