Obituary of Dorothy M. Chapman

Dorothy M. Chapman, age 85 formerly of 3352 Hanover Court, Iowa City died Tuesday, December 6, 2005, at Solon Nursing and Rehab Center. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, December 9, 2005, at the First Presbyterian Church in Iowa City with the Dr. C. Edward Morgan officiating. Burial will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Iowa City. Visitation will be after 9:30 a.m. Friday until the services at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Dorothy’s memory to Iowa City Hospice or the First Presbyterian Church. Online condolences may be sent for her family through our website @www.gayandciha.com. Dorothy Marie Brown was born November 18, 1920, in Iowa City the daughter of Lawrence M. and Genevieve I. (McCarthy) Brown. She attended Iowa City Schools graduating from City High School in 1939. On July 5, 1941, she married Thomas H. Chapman in Kahoka, MO. The couple moved from Ft. Dodge to Iowa City in 1980. Dorothy had been associated with AAA Motor Club of Iowa as a travel counselor for over thirty years. She was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church in Iowa City having served as an elder; she was also a member of PEO chapter JF, and Questers. Her family includes her children, Shari Nelson and her husband, Bruce of Scotch Plains, NJ, Tom Chapman and his wife, Karen of Indianapolis, IN, Sara McCoy and her husband, Mike of Mason City, IA; seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and a aunt, Esther Wilkerson of Iowa City. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Thomas on February 11, 1989; two grandsons, Brad and Scott Nelson, one brother and one sister.
