Obituary of Bernice H. Bixby

Bernice H. Bixby age 81, of rural Homestead died at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City on Friday, July 2, 2004. Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, July 6, 2004 at the Oxford Cemetery. Visitation will be on Monday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. and from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday at the Gay and Ciha Chapel in Oxford. Memorials may be given to the Bernice Bixby Memorial Fund, online condolences may be sent to family through our website @www.gayandciha.com. Bernice Hazel Burkett was born on October 13, 1922 the daughter of Elmer and Bertha Burkett. She attended rural schools and married Francis A. Bixby. She worked in the housekeeping department at Motel 6 and later as a greater at Wal-Mart. Bernice enjoyed her family, fishing, quilting, sewing and a good game of cards. Her family includes her sons, Frankie of Oxford, Iowa, Frank of Williamsburg, Iowa, LeRoy of Marshfield, Wisconsin, George of Nellsville, Wisconsin, daughters Jane Wilcut of Homestead, Iowa Judy Bixby of Belle Plaine, Iowa, Iola Blakey of Floris, Iowa, Iota Jansen of Ollie, Iowa, Martha West of Hamburg, Iowa, 42 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren and one sister Opal of Corning, Arkansas. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one daughter, Francie Mae, one son, Francis Bixby Jr. The Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service are caring for Bernice’s family and her services.
