Obituary of William E. Laschke
His family includes his wife Marilyn of Iowa City, four daughters: Hollie Laschke of Iowa City: Mary Jo Knaack and Ruth and husband Dennis Woods of Bettendorf: and Susie Laschke and fiance Gilbert Phelps of Iowa City: four grandchildren: Jennifer Hiller, Brian Laschke, Taylor Earnest and McKenna Earnest: three great-grandchildren Erin, Chyenne and Brandon, one sister Mary Ann and husband Jack Bock of Iowa City, one brother Harvey Laschke of Iowa City, a sister in-law Joan and husband Dick Duder of Riverside and along with several aunts and uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins His parents preceded him in death.
Bill served his country in the U.S. Army and saw front line duty in the Korean War for fourteen months. Before and after his military service Bill was employed at Burkett Rhinehart and Ford for a number of years. He worked for the University of Iowa Athletic Department as a mechanic at Finkbine Golf Course retiring in 1990.
Bill was born on October 10, 1929 in Oxford, Iowa the son of H.W. Dutch and Edna Frees Laschke; he attended Iowa City Schools and married Marilyn Luse on September 30, 1950 at St. Marys Catholic Church in Iowa City.
Bill was a member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Iowa City, he loved fishing, golfing and had an interest in military aircraft. He was known for his quick wit and dry sense of humor; he loved to fix anything broken and was willing to help anyone who asked. His daughters will remember his love and cherish his protecting ways even after they left home.
