Obituary of Goldie B. Wonick

Iowa City Dateline: Goldie B. Wonick, age 88 formerly of 1832 7th. Avenue Court, Iowa City died Friday, November 12, 2004 at Iowa Rehab and Health Center. A gathering of family and friends will be held from 4 to 7pm Tuesday at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. Family committal services will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery Mausoleum. In Lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Goldie’s memory to Iowa City Hospice. Online condolences may be sent for her family through our website @www.gayanciha.com. Goldie B. Norenberg Wonick was born January 19, 1916, in Minot, ND, the daughter of George and Gracie (Grove) Norenberg. On October 11, 1936, she married William C. “Bill” Wonick in Altoona, Iowa. The couple made their home in Iowa City following their marriage. For many years, Goldie worked for the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in housekeeping and dietary departments. Her families, especially her grandkids were very much a part of her life. They remember that she loved to cook, and that she was a great cook, she enjoyed sewing, quilting, and playing cards with family and friends. Her family includes two sons, Ronald and his wife, Sandy Wonick of Jerome, ID and Jack Wonick and Carol Heitshusen of Rochester, IA; daughters and their husbands, Vicki and Charles Martin of West Branch, and Judy and Steve Sweeting of Ventura, IA; eight grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Grace Norenberg of Keota, and Arlene Norenberg of Ainsworth. She was preceded in death by her husband, five sisters and three brothers. Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service of Iowa City is caring for Goldie’s family and her services.
