Obituary of Wayne F. Sieverding

Wayne F. “Bud” Sieverding, age 76 of Iowa City died Tuesday, October 25, 2005, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City. Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m., Saturday, October 29, 2005, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Hills, Iowa with the Reverend Louis Leonhardt officiating. Family graveside services will take place at the Garwin Cemetery at a later time. Visitation will be from 4 to 7pm Friday at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. Wayne Francis Sieverding was born January 29, 1929, in LeMars, Iowa the son of Wilbur and Mary Esther (Schnepf) Sieverding. "Bud" as he was always known, attended high school in LeMars, Iowa. He served in the Marine Corps during the end of WWII before he attended Iowa State College and graduated in 1952 with a degree in mechanical engineering. While there, he was a member of Phi Kappa Theta fraternity. He worked at Lennox in Marshalltown following graduation where he eventually became chief engineer. On November 28, 1959, he married Mary Jean Kinsella at St. Johns Cathedral in Des Moines. The couple raised their family in Garwin, Iowa. He owned and operated Western Manufacturing Corporation in Marshalltown for many years. Bud was active in the Chamber of Commerce, Lions Club, and the Marshalltown Rotary Club. He was a member of and also served as President of the ASME (American Society of Mechanical Engineers). Bud retired and moved to Marshalltown with his wife, Mary, in 1992. In 2000, the couple relocated to Solon, Iowa where Bud was active in the Knights of Columbus. Recently Bud resided at the Silvercrest Legacy complex in Iowa City, Iowa. Bud was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hills, Iowa. During his life he was a licensed pilot and flew his own plane, he was an avid hunter and fisherman; he designed and built his home in Garwin, as well as 2 other homes. His family includes his wife, Mary; children, Carol Ann Clement and her husband, Jack of Elk Horn, WI, and their children Anna, Emily and Eleanor; Linda Knudtson and her husband, Kevin of Iowa City, and their children Steven, Katie, and David; Nancy Waldschmidt and her husband, Mike of Iowa City, and their children Alyssa, Matthew, Clayton, and Weston; Mike Sieverding and his wife, Lora of Lone Tree, and their children Lucas, Jake, and Elena; Cindi Weyer and her husband, John of Cedar Rapids, and their son Nathan; and Eric Sieverding and his wife, Chelle of Conrad, IA and their children Rebecca and Jeffrey. He is also survived by his sisters, Mary Rita Walsh of LeMars, Iowa and Diann Stevens of Fort McCoy, FL; and brothers, Roger Sieverding, Earl Sieverding and Tom Sieverding all of Ft. McCoy, FL, and Harry Sieverding and his wife, Annette of Madisonville, LA. He was preceded in death by his son Jeffrey David, his parents Wilbur and Mary Esther Sieverding and his brother Wilbur. Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service of Iowa City is caring for Bud’s family and his services.
