Obituary of Robert J. Walker

Robert J. “Bob” Walker, age 77 of rural Iowa City died on Sunday, January 4, 2004 at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Iowa City, following a short illness. Funeral Services for Robert will be held at 6:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 7, 2004 at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. Burial will be at a later date. Visitation will be from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m., Wednesday at the funeral home. He was born on September 30, 1926 in Johnson County, the son of Scott and Columbia Powelson Walker. Robert graduated from Lone Tree High School then joined the Air Force. On February 16, 1949 Robert married Ida Belle Hollingshead in Enid, OK. After the Air Force he graduated from an engineering school in Milwaukee, WI. Most of his life was lived on the family farm south of Iowa City. Through the years he has worked for Allen Bradley in Milwaukee, General Foods, City Cab, City Sewer Department and Sheller Globe in Iowa City. He retired from Sheller Globe in 1988 where he was working as an Electrician. Robert was a member of the Free Medical Board and the HACAP Board in Iowa City. Robert is survived by his wife of 54 years, Ida, his sister, Cara Brehm of Tacoma, WA, and 14 children, Lindy Lou Snyder of Ft. Worth, TX, Robert Joseph Walker II of Mason City, C. Henry Walker of Salina, KS, Miron Jay Walker of Oelwein, Charles Francis Walker of Lake Dallas Texas, Terry Mark Walker of Oren, UT. James Timothy Walker of Iowa City, Michael Raymond Walker of Kalona, John Barry Walker of Cedar Rapids, Benjamin Lee Walker of Cedar Rapids, Clinton Wilber Walker of Iowa City, Sarah Walker of Hesston KS, Carol Walker of West Liberty and Judy Lynn Ridgway of Cedar Rapids. He was also the proud grandparent of 40 grandchildren and 5 great-granddaughters. Robert was preceded in death by his parents Scott and Columbia Walker, his brother, Scott and his son, Philip Edward Walker. The Gay and Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service are caring for Bob’s services and his family.
