Obituary of James K. Dunsmore

James K. “Jim” Dunsmore, age 76 of 667 Scott Park Drive, Iowa City died Saturday, March 20, 2004 at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City following a brief illness. Funeral services will be held a 1: 30 p.m., Wednesday, March 24, 2004 at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. Burial with military honors will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Iowa City. Visitation will be from 4 to 6p.m., Tuesday, March 23rd. at the funeral home. A memorial fund has been established in Jim’s memory. James Kenneth Dunsmore was born March 13, 1928 in Ainsworth, Iowa the son of Harold and Edna (Zimmerman) Dunsmore. He enlisted in the United States Army during WWII, continued to serve throughout the three wars of WWII, the Korean Conflict, and Vietnam, retiring from active duty after twenty-three years of service. During this time, he married Maria E. Ploner on December 31, 1950. Following retirement from service he and his family moved to Iowa City in 1967 where he worked for a number of businesses including, Sheller Globe, the Iowa City Press-Citizen, Standard Oil, and for the Iowa State Liquor Commission managing stores in Iowa City and West Liberty. His family includes his wife, Maria; daughter, Barbara Ann Dunsmore of Iowa City, and son, John Douglas Dunsmore of Warrenville, IL; sisters, Myrle Williams of Canada, Guenn Kehoe of Iowa City, Edith Worrell and her husband, V.C. of Knobnoster, MO, and Dorothy Morrison and her husband, Jack of Columbus, Junction, IA. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Russell and Allen Dunsmore, and a sister, Mary Rings.
