Obituary of Evelyn H. Farnsworth

Evelyn Helen Farnsworth, age 93, formerly of Iowa City, died Saturday, November 20, 2004, at the Solon Nursing Care Center in Solon. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, November 23, 2004, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service with the Reverend Tim Malek from Zion Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Iowa City. Visitation will be from 3 to 6pm Monday at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to Hospice of Iowa City, Zion Lutheran Church, or the American Cancer Society. Online condolences may be sent for her family through our website @www.gayandciha.com. Evelyn was born July 24, 1911, in Muscatine, Iowa, the daughter of Clyde and Alice (Piening) Albrecht. On May 30, 1936, she married Robert Edward Farnsworth in Rock Island, IL. She worked at Strub’s Department Store in the fabric department for many years, and then worked at the University of Iowa Evaluation & Examination Service as the Scoring Supervisor. Evelyn enjoyed sewing, making jam, being with her grandchildren, getting together with her friends once a month at Bon Aire and going out to eat. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, and enjoyed getting together with the ladies at Twigs. In addition she was a BIG Hawkeye fan. Her family includes her children, Dorothy Hornung Farnsworth of Dallas, TX; Sandra Sue Rojohn and husband, Darrell of Grinnell; Robert Edward Farnsworth Jr. of Iowa City; Karen Elizabeth Braselton of Centerville, OH; Barbara Alice Hill and her husband, Gary of Salida, CA; and David Lee Farnsworth and his wife, Jo of Solon; twenty-three grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews; sisters, Thelma Bowlby of Bradenton, FL, Margaret Kinsey of Iowa City; and brothers, Robert Albrecht of West Liberty, and Kenneth Albrecht and his wife, Dorothy of North Liberty. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brothers, Clyde Albrecht Jr. and Arthur Albrecht. The family of Evelyn Farnsworth would like to express their gratitude to Dr. Thomas Nicknish and his nurse, Connie Colony; Dr. Jack Sherry; and the staff of Solon Nursing Care Center for their extraordinary care given to Evelyn.
