Obituary of Harriett E. Ward

Harriet Eleanor Ward age 89 of Iowa City, died peacefully at her home in Iowa City on Sunday, May 30, 2004. Private family funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 3, 2004 with burial at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Iowa City. Memorial donations in Harriett’s name may be given to Iowa City Hospice. Her family would like to thank Iowa City Hospice and her close friends, Matthew Walker and Debbie Roberts for the care and compassion given to Harriett and her family. Harriet E. Ward was born on July 10, 1914 in Iowa City the daughter of James J. and Mary Amrine Russell. She attended St. Patrick Catholic and Iowa City Schools. On May 11, 1936, she married Dr. William Ward in Rock Island. For nineteen years she worked in food service for the Iowa City School District and was manager of the Kitchen at North West Junior High School. She enjoyed ceramics, playing bridge and bingo along with an occasional trip to the river boats. Above all else her family always came first, her children and grandchildren where the light of her life. Her family includes her sons, James Ward and wife Debbie of Hampshire, IL, John Ward and wife Linda of Schererville, IN, daughters: Marianne and husband Glenn Zeigler of Sioux City, IA., Cathi, and husband Virgil Miller of Solon, IA, eleven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, one step grandchild, one sister, Mary Schroeder of Albuquerque, NM. and two nieces She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one brother, one daughter in-law, one grandson and one great-granddaughter. Gay and Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service is caring for Harriet’s family and her services.
