Obituary of Mary Ann Bock

Mary Ann Bock, 79, formerly of Iowa City, died Saturday, September 10, 2005 at Windmill Manor, Coralville. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, September 14, 2005 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Iowa City with the Reverend Rudy Juarez officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Iowa City. Visitation will be from 4 to 7pm, Tuesday, September 13, 2005 at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service, Iowa City. Memorials may be given in Mary Ann’s memory to R.A.M.P. (Remodeling: Accessibility Makeover Project) at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. Mary Ann was born October 7, 1925 in Tiffin, Iowa to Harry “Dutch” and Edna (Frees) Laschke. She was a 1944 graduate of Iowa City High School, where she was the class salutatorian. She was an active part planning City High reunions. Mary Ann married John “Jack” Bock on April 30, 1947 at St Mary’s Catholic Church in Iowa City. Mary Ann worked at First National Bank in Iowa City following high school and in later years worked as a secretary at McBride Field Campus. She was lifelong resident of Iowa City and a member of St Patrick’s Catholic Church, the Mercy Hospital Guild, the Iowa City Homebuilder’s Auxiliary, a volunteer for the Visiting Nurses Association and a board member, as well as the bookkeeper for St. Joseph’s Cemetery. Mary Ann enjoyed her bridge club, being both a Cub and Girl Scout leader and vacationing with family. Mary Ann’s family includes a son and his wife, Dick and Cheryl Bock of Iowa City; a daughter and her husband, Jane and Timothy Zwiener of Iowa City; three grandchildren, Matt Bock, Allie Bock and Brianna Zwiener; a brother, Harvey Laschke; a brother–in-law and his wife, Bill and Phyllis Bock of Iowa City; a sister-in-law Marilyn Laschke of Iowa City and an uncle and his wife, Robert and Mary Frees of Iowa City. Mary Ann was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Jack and a brother, Bill.
