Obituary of Arthur B. Cornwall

Arthur “Barry” Barrett Cornwall, of 220 Church Street, Iowa City, died January 29, 2006 at Mercy Hospital, Iowa City. Arthur has chosen cremation. There will be no funeral or visitation. Memorials may be directed to Iowa City Hospice in Arthur’s memory. Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service are handling arrangements. Barry was born in Macoun, Saskatchewan, Canada. His family returned to Iowa City in 1929. Barry attended City High and joined the horse cavalry during the last two years of high school. Upon graduating, he joined the navy. He entered radio school and completed his training there before joining the underwater demolition squad, where he finished his military service in the South Pacific. He returned to Iowa City and worked for five years for his father, a local paint contractor. He then worked thirty five years for Iowa-Illinois Gas and Electric Company as a service man. He was married to Dolores Driscoll, and the couple spent their married life in Iowa City. After retirement Barry pursued a long time interest by selling antiques in various shops in eastern Iowa. Barry was also an avid fisherman, hunter and gardener. Barry is survived by his wife, Dolores, his son Brian and wife, Char, two grandsons Trent and Ross Cornwall of Solon. Barry is also survived by his sister-in-law Eileen Driscoll of Wellman, two sons of a former marriage, Arthur and Brad, and several nieces and nephews. Barry was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Clara Cornwall, sisters Dorothy and Doris and brothers, John and Leland.
