Obituary of Stella Mae 'Tootie&apos Mahoney
Her family includes two daughters, Susan Mahoney of Iowa City, and Jennifer Mahoney and her husband, John McCabe of Harlingen, Texas; son, Michael Mahoney of Iowa City; daughter-in-law, Colleen Mahoney of Iowa City; six grandchildren, Stephanie Lockhart of Denver, Joseph Lockhart of Iowa City, Melissa and her husband, Robert Frees of Iowa City, Megan Bishop of Iowa City, Jamie McCabe and Annie McCabe both of Harlingen, Texas; three sisters, Bennie Harrington of West Branch, Josephine and her husband, Charles Fulton of Iowa City, and Dorothy Justice of Ft. Worth, Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Joseph February 21, 1989; six sisters, Anna Krueger, Myrtle Parizek, Louise Bulechek, Lucy Krueger, Pearle Davis, and Cleo Krueger.
Tootie was born April 24, 1926, in rural Johnson County, Iowa the daughter of Ed and Estella (Austin) Ball. She graduated from Iowa City City High School. On September 4, 1944, she married Joseph Earl Mahoney here in Iowa City. For many years Tootie worked as the business manager in the cafeteria of South East Junior High School.
She loved the outdoors, camping and fishing. Tootie has always had a garden, freezing and canning the fruits of her labors. And if you were ever around her during baseball season, you knew she cheered loudly for the Chicago Cubs!
