Obituary of Doris Maxine Decker

Doris Maxine Decker, age 88 formerly of 900 Orchard Street, Iowa City died Monday, August 8, 2005, at Greenwood Manor Care Center in Iowa City. Funeral services will be held at 7pm Wednesday, August 10, 2005, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. Visitation will be from 4pm until services at the funeral home. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday at Oakland Cemetery in Iowa City. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established in Doris’s memory. Doris Maxine Slaybaugh was born May 24, 1917, in Montezuma, Iowa the daughter of Lawrence and Ida (Johnson) Slaybaugh. Her family moved to Iowa City in 1919 where she attended schools. She was married to Lloyd Stimmel in Kahoka, MO and later to Hiram “Oscar” Decker in Davenport. Doris enjoyed life, she like to latchhook, crochet, and other craft work, loved to play cards with her family and friends, baby-sit little ones, and play with her dogs. Her family includes, seven children, Lauren Stimmel of Maquoketa, Steve Decker and his wife, Rita of Iowa City, Richard Stimmel and his wife, Irlene of Maquoketa, John Stimmel of Iowa City, Doris Jean Klang and her husband, Donald of Ankeny, Betty Lou Johnson and her husband, Jerry of Vermillion, SD, and Elizabeth Stimmel of Iowa City; eleven grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husbands, two sons, Allan and a son in infancy, and a granddaughter, Hope Ellen Stimmel.
