Obituary of Sharon M. Huff

Sharon Marie Nelson-Huff, age 67 of 661 Scott Park Drive, Iowa City died at her home, Sunday, December 19, 2004, following a short battle with lung cancer. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, December 28, 2004, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. Burial will be at the Lone Tree Cemetery in Lone Tree, Iowa. Visitation will be from 4 to 7pm Monday, December 27, 2004 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials donations can be made to Iowa City Hospice or Holden Cancer Center c/o University of Iowa Foundation. She was born March 12 1937, in Marshalltown, IA to Emmanuel Leroy Nelson and Martha Caroline (Davis) Nelson. Sharon was raised in Marshalltown until the age of seven then moved to Lone Tree, IA April 1944 where she graduated from High School in 1955. On June 4 1955, she was united in marriage to Edward J Huff of Lone Tree IA. From 1955 to 1957, she worked for Iowa State bank as a teller, then from 1957-1968 she worked for Lone Tree savings bank as a cashier and bank teller. In 1969 she retired from banking and in 1973 she went into business with her husband and they purchased Hawkeye North American Moving & Storage in Iowa City, IA. In 2001, Ed & Sharon expanded their company with the purchase of North American Moving & Storage in Ft. Wayne, IN and Superior Logistics USA a holding company of Hawkeye Moving & Storage & North American Moving & Storage (NAMS). In the past several years, she and her husband owned various other companies with business partner Gary Hughes, also of Iowa City. She enjoyed crosswords puzzles, her grandchildren, great grand child, her close friends Mike & Dianne Riggan of Muscatine, IA, Sheila Morrison Whitlock of Bow WA, Ben Sorden of Shueyville, IA, Michelle Morrison of Iowa City, IA and time spent with her husband and family on their houseboat in Dubuque Iowa. Organizations she belonged to includes the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge in Iowa City, Lone Tree women’s bowling association, altar and rosary society and peanuts card club in Lone Tree. Sharon’s family includes, her husband, Edward Joseph Huff of Iowa City; two daughters, Victoria Ann Huff of Iowa City and Michelle Marie Huff of North Liberty; one son, Ted Huff of Ft Wayne, IN; four granddaughters, Jessica Frierson, Garland TX, April Huff Ring, Iowa City, Alexis & Kelsey Page of North Liberty, one great-grandson Forrest Edward Frierson of Garland, TX; and her brother and his wife, Dale and JoAnn Nelson, Lone Tree. She was preceded in death by her parents Emmanuel & Martha Nelson, in-laws Joe & Orpha Huff and one great grandson Shane Nicholas Baker.
