Obituary of Gordon P. Schnoebelen

Gordon P. Schnoebelen, age 80, of rural Iowa City died Sunday, January 9, 2005 at his home following a lengthy illness. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, January 12, 2005, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Iowa City with the Reverend Rudolph Juarez officiating. Burial will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Iowa City. Visitation will be from 3 to 7pm Tuesday at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City where a parish vigil service will be said at 7pm. A memorial fund has been established in his memory. Online condolences may be sent for Gordon’s family through our website @www.gayanciha.com. Gordon Paul Schnoebelen was born August 10, 1924, in Kalamazoo, Michigan, the son of Walter J. and Ruth F. (Thompson) Schnoebelen. On March 3, 1946, Gordon married Delores Marie Mahoney at the St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Iowa City. The couple has farmed south of Iowa City all their married lives. He was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Iowa City. His family includes his wife, Delores; three sons, Jerry of Hills, Gary of Iowa City, and Wayne of Bone, IA; one granddaughter, Sierra Schnoebelen of Boone; sisters, Virginia Carmody of Redondo Beach, CA, Carol Neuzil of Iowa City, and Eileen Rogers of Iowa City; brothers, Grant Schnoebelen of Ainsworth, John Schnoebelen of Iowa City, and Larry Schnoebelen of Iowa City. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Georgia Albrecht, and a brother, Kenneth Schnoebelen.
