Obituary of Margaret L. Yoder

Her family includes her husband of nearly sixty-five years, Cleo; daughters and their husbands, Patricia and Larry Sleister of Guthrie Center, Iowa, Linda “Pete” Lawson and Jim Harris of Tampa, Florida, and Cathlin and Roger Farmer of Atlanta, Georgia; son, Curt Yoder of Washington, D.C.; nine grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and one step-great grandson. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Donald Fry, and sister, Darlene Hess. Margaret Loraine Fry Yoder was born April 20, 1916, in Frytown, Iowa the daughter of Frank “Doc” and Eva (Stoner) Fry. She graduated salutatorian of class from Center High School, rural Johnson County. On December 23, 1938, she married Cleo E. Yoder here in Iowa City. She was active in her children’s lives as they were growing up, being involved in their many activities, always encouraging and supporting them. She volunteered many many hours at the Veterans Administration Hospital and University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics over the years, receiving national reconigition for this. She was a member of the First Christian Church where she was active in various circles, DAR, quilting clubs, and a former 4-H leader for many years. Margaret loved her family and friends; they will remember her passion for baking, gardening, reading, sewing, quilting, and knitting for her family and others. While volunteering at the University Hospitals she would knit little caps for the newborns. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Iowa City Library or the First Christian Church in Iowa City.
