Obituary of Charles L. Kennedy

Charles L. Kennedy, age 98, of Iowa City died on Saturday, January 11, 2004 at Lantern Park Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Coralville. He chose to deed his body to the University of Iowa Anatomy Department. Memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, January 16, 2004 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Iowa City. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to the Charles Kennedy Memorial Fund and sent to his wife, Thelma at 1259 Shannon Dr. # 105, Iowa City, Iowa. Charles was born May 4, 1905 to James Harry Kennedy and Mary Ellen March at Mt. Ayr, Iowa, but lived most of his life in Des Moines. He graduated from East High School in Des Moines in 1923 and made All-State in football that year. He married Agatha Lena Shepherd on July 7, 1935 in Owatonna, Minnesota. He leased and managed a parking/service garage across for the Savory Hotel for many years. Agatha passed away on December 13, 1983. He married Thelma Brunkan-Ledenbach-Wegworth on September 20, 1985 in Ogden, Iowa. His family includes his daughters, Frances Civaro and Mary Kennedy of Des Moines, Iowa, son-in-law, John Civaro, nine grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren of Des Moines and Altoona, three step-sons, seven step-grandchildren, 2 step-great-grandchildren, brother, Robert Kennedy in Peoria, AZ. He was preceded in death by his wife, Agatha, his parents, daughter, Karen Kennedy-Anderson, grandson, Thomas Anderson and his brother, Buss.
