Obituary of Ray B. Mossman, Jr.

Ray B. Mossman Jr., age 87 of 701 Oaknoll Drive, Iowa City died Friday September 26, 2003 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinic’s in Iowa City following an extended illness. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 1, 2003 at Gay and Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. Burial will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home in Iowa City. Online Condolences may be sent to his family at www.gayandciha.com. Ray Bryon Mossman Jr. was born on August 14, 1916 in Inman, Nebraska the son of Ray Byron and Lyle E. Butler Mossman. He attended high school in Kansas City and the University of Iowa in Iowa City. Ray came to Iowa City in 1936 as a student. At that time he worked as an Offset Pressman for the Daily Iowan. On graduation he remained in the service of the University for 62 years in many capacities. At the time of his retirement in 1985 he was the Business Manager and Treasurer of the University. His time at the University was interrupted by military service during World War II, and the Korean Conflict from which he returned a Major in the Infantry. In 1998 The University of Iowa expressed its appreciation for his exemplary leadership devotion and commitment to service by renaming the consolidated Business Services Building in his honor. His family includes: Dorothy, his wife of 63 years, his daughter, Elaine Guha of Pittsburgh, PA., and her children Mona Leigh Guha and Girin Guha, his son, Allen and wife Mary Mossman of Wheaton, Il., and his children, Amy Mossman and David and James Foster, brothers John N. and wife Marge Mossman of Coldwater, MI., Jay D. and Marilyn Mossman of Fort Myers, Fl., along with numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Gilbert. The Gay and Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service is caring for Ray’s family and his services.
