Obituary of Margaret M. Hora

Margaret M. Hora, 91, of rural West Branch died Friday, February 21, 2014, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City. Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Thursday, February 27, 2014, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Iowa City, where Sunday parking will be available. Visitation will be from 3-7 p.m., Wednesday at the Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service. Memorials in Margaret's name can be made to the West Branch First Responders. Margaret Marie (Kasper) was born May 7, 1922, in Washington County; daughter of Edward and Zitta (Kron) Kasper. She married Robert J. Hora on February 7, 1945, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Iowa City. Together they raised their family and farmed their entire lives. On their farm, Hereford cattle were among their favorite livestock which they raised for many years. Margaret was a hardworking woman who possessed many talents. She was a seamstress, quilter, baker, teacher and the family photographer. She took pride in her gardens and loved to be outdoors, whether tending to the cattle or watching the birds, if she was outside, life was good! 4-H was also important to Margaret, for many years she was on the Johnson County 4-H Youth Committee and always enjoyed teaching children about the many aspects of life. Margaret was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Iowa City, Johnson County 4-H and the West Branch TPM club. Her family includes her daughters, Judy (Clyde) Antone and Sharon (Elmer Ron) Hebl both of West Branch; grandchildren, Alisa (Matt) Mathis, Robyn (Tim) Beuter, Adam Hebl, Alex Hebl and Matt (Janene) Hebl; great-grandsons, Daniel and Jason Beuter and her beloved dog, Blue. Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Robert in 2005, three brothers and two sisters.
