Obituary of Patricia A. Gause
Patricia Ann Gause, 74, of Iowa City, died Monday, June 6, 2005, at her daughters home in Iowa City after a lengthy illness. Services will be at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, June 9, 2005 at the Gay and Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service, in Iowa City with Reverend Mark Gause officiating. Burial will be at Memory Gardens. Following funeral services, there will be a luncheon at Faith United Church of Christ in Iowa City. Red hats or attire encouraged. Visitation will be from4 to 7pm Wednesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Iowa City Hospice, Camp Courageous, Special Olympics, Faith United Church of Christ or the American Cancer Society. Online condolences may be sent for her family through our website @www.gayandciha.com. Mrs. Gause was born February 18, 1931, in Lynnville, Iowa, to Charlie and Bertha (Saunders) Pietersma. She graduated from Newton High School in 1949. She married David Eugene Gause on August 19, 1950, in Lynnville, Iowa. She worked for UIHC, Aldens department store and ACT. She also worked on a temporary or seasonal part-time basis for Iowa Book and Supply and Hals Gifts and Cards. Mrs. Gause was a charter member of Faith United Church of Christ and in the early years was very involved in church activities, assisted in building the current facility, went door-to-door inviting neighbors to visit the church, served on several committees including church council, was active in fundraising, and taught Sunday school. She was active for many years in Project Green (including hosting their home on the Garden Tour), Embroidery Guild, the Hosta Society, Garden Club and the Red Hat Society. Mrs. Gause enjoyed her hosta gardens (owning more than 800 named hostas), arts and craft projects, flower gardens, and also had many of her P. Buckley Moss needlepoint pieces on display around Iowa City over the years including current displays at Hills Bank and Trust Company on Muscatine Avenue in Iowa City. Her family includes one son, Paul Gause of Iowa City; two daughters, Debra Borgstahl and her husband Gordon, of Iowa City, and Leah Howk and her husband, Mike, of Bloomfield, Iowa; two grandsons, Adam Borgstahl of Coralville, and Benjamin Borgstahl of Iowa City; one step-grandson, Nathan Hudek of Tacoma, Washington; one great-granddaughter, two step-great-granddaughters and two step-great-grandsons. Her parents and her husband preceded her in death. Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service of Iowa City is caring for Pats family and her services.
