Obituary of Helen M. Helder

Helen M. Helder, age 87 of 2905 Raven Street, Iowa City died Tuesday, December 16, 2003 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, December 20, 2003 at the New Hope Methodist Church in Iowa City with the Reverend Jim Davis officiating. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday at the Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery in Cedar Rapids. Visitation will be from 3 to 7pm Friday at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Helen’s memory. Helen Marie Havlik was born June 22, 1916 in rural Brandon, Iowa the daughter of Frank and Lillian (Bartosh) Havlik. She graduated from Troy Mills High School. She married Wesley Waterhouse May 10, 1938. She later married Alfred Helder October 8, 1977. Helen’s life passion was caring for her family, and being a sales manager for Field Enterprise Educational Corporation, later becoming World Book Encyclopedia and Related Educational Products for over twenty years. She was a member of New Hope Methodist Church in Iowa City. Her family includes, children, Irene and her husband, Robert Lary of Muscatine, Doris “D.J.” Nordstrom of Maplewood, MN, Frank and his wife, Diane Waterhouse of Goodyear, AZ, Bonnie and her husband, Tom Lingnofski of Menasha, WI, Marvin and his wife, Barbara Waterhouse of Manchester, IA, and John Waterhouse of Iowa City; 16 grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren. Helen’s family brought her so much joy throughout her lifetime. She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, and a brother, Lumir Havlik.
